Adisutjipto Substitute Airport
YIA is used to replace Adisutjipto International Airport. One of the reasons is that Adisutjipto Airport has a small capacity to accommodate aircraft. Flights from and to Adisutjipto Airport are now diverted to YIA starting March 29, 2020. Meanwhile, Adisutjipto Airport is still functioning to serve domestic flights with propeller or propeller-engined aircraft.
The new YIA airport stands on an area of 600 hectares with construction costing up to IDR 6 trillion. The terminal at this airport was built with an outer 106,500 square meters so that it can accommodate up to 10 million passengers per year. In addition, the aircraft hangar was built with an area of 371,125 square meters and can accommodate up to 28 aircraft.
