By the end of the year, Indonesia will have 30 million doses of vaccine from the UAE and China.
Chief Executive of the Committee for Handling Covid-19 and Economic Recovery, Erick Thohir, stated that Indonesia will have 30 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine by the end of the year. There will be 15 million people who can be vaccinated if clinical trials in collaboration with the United Arab Emirates and China go well.
A total of 30 million doses of the vaccine were provided in collaboration with Sinovac Biotech from China and G42, a pharmaceutical company from the UAE. The two companies use the same vaccine for two doses in one injection with a time interval of two weeks.
“So if the two collaborations between the UAE and China are accumulated, we will get 30 million vaccines in 2020. If one person needs two doses, around 15 million people will be vaccinated by the end of 2020,” said Erick,

Vaccines Can Be Used Immediately
Erick said the millions of vaccines could be used immediately if clinical trials by the two foreign companies went well. Sinovac, said Erick, is committed to providing 20 million doses of raw materials for the Covid-19 vaccine and 250 million doses of raw material for 2021 with a 10 percent overfill.
Meanwhile, G42 is committed to providing raw materials for 10 million doses in December. In the first quarter of 2021 it is ready to provide 50 million doses. Regarding development, Erick said the two vaccines have an effectiveness time of six months to two years. So, vaccines are not effective forever or are only taken once in a lifetime.
Erick explained that from the latest information he got, the vaccine could be used for ages 18 years to over 59 years. While currently being developed for ages under 18 years.

Red and White Vaccines Remain Priority
Not only with Sinovac and G42, the government has also contacted several companies from other countries for Covid-19 vaccine cooperation. Such as AstraZeneca from Europe and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation from the United States.
However, Erick emphasized that his party is still working on a domestically made vaccine. The vaccine is the Red and White Vaccine which is currently being developed in Indonesia. “Of course what is our priority, the solution offered by this vaccine is still a short-term solution. We hope that we can also find the Red and White Vaccine ourselves because from our experience we also have that capacity,” said Erick.
