Italian Prime Minister, Guiseppe Conte, made a drastic decision. He said the whole of Italy was closed following an increase in extreme mortality due to the corona virus.Conte asked for more than 60 million Italian residents to stay indoors. He also banned all public meetings.“There is no more time. I will be responsible for this decision. Our future is in our hands,” Conte said at a press conference Monday evening local time, as quoted by The Guardian .Currently Italy is battling the worst Covid-19 outbreak in Europe. Italy has recorded 9,172 people infected with a death toll of 463.
This is the most fatalities outside of China. Followed by Iran 237 patients died and South Korea 53 people died.Conte said travel restrictions and public meetings that were originally only applied in the north have now been expanded. All of Italy was designated as a closed area.”I will sign the decree which can be summarized as follows: I live at home. All of Italy will be a protected zone,” Conte said.
